Bruce Smith was automatically inducted into the GFL Hall of Fame after retiring in 2004.  Like Rod Woodson, another member of the class of 2004, he retired as the best player at his position in GFL history.  He made the All-Pro team 7 times, including 5 times as a first-teamer.  His all-time rankings among defensive linemen include 1st in total points, 1st in sacks (14.5 more than the next best) and 1st in tackles (60 more than the next best).

Bruce began his GFL career with the New England Lobsters.  The Lobsters traded him to the Tampa Bay Toe Cheese in 1993 thinking that he might be nearing the end of his career.  He went on to play 10 more years, 6 of those with the Toe Cheese.  His most team success was with the Toe Cheese, helping lead them to 4 straight division titles from '96-'99.  The closest he came to winning the Gregory Cup was a 2nd place finish with the Mice in 2002.
