Steve Young was unanimously inducted into the GFL Hall of Fame in 2000. He missed automatic induction by just 104 points. What makes Young's GFL accomplishments so impressive is that he didn't play in the 1990 and 1991 seasons. The Cleveland Blackbirds gambled in the '92 draft that Joe Montana would get injured and Young spent the rest of his career as the Blackbirds QB.
Young's point total ranks him 5th on the all-time QB point list. His TD:INT ratio (2.8) is head-and-shoulders above the GFL's other great QBs (Favre - 1.6, Marino - 1.9, Moon - 1.6, Elway - 1.8, Testaverde - 1.4). In fact, no other 20000-point QB has a ratio over 2. He also ranks #1 all-time among QBs in rushing yards and rushing TDs. He was league MVP in 1993-1994 and his 14974 points from 1992-1994 rank #1 over that span. His 1998 point total ranks 2nd all-time in single-season scores and his 1994 total ranks 4th.
Young also enjoyed great team success. He won the Gregory Cup in his rookie season, then led his team to the only undefeated regular season in league history in 1994. Over his career, the Blackbirds reached the playoffs 7 times, with 6 division titles. He was also a member of the 1999 Cup champions, although he was unable to play because of concussion problems. Young raised his level of play during the post-season with these gaudy numbers: '92 - 1475, '94 - 1715, '95 - 1536, '96 - 2000.
